Shisha... what is it?

Shisha is the tobacco used when smoking a hookah. Although each brand shisha is made differently per company, the common ingredients you find in shisha are...

American Spirit Natural Rolling Tobacco (80% by weight)
Fruit (ie apple) (20% by weight)
Molasses (light/mild)
Glycerine (safe to digest, ie vegetable)

Please note that this is not a shisha formula, and is not recommended to be tested at your home.

You place the shisha in the hookah bowl, cover it with aluminum foil or a metal screen. Once covered you place the coal on top of the screen and begin to enjoy your hookah experience.

We do not know the current total brands of shisha, nor the total flavors that currently exists. However we can tell you that since 1985 shisha brands and flavors have exploded on the market place. More now that ever you can find over 40 flavors, with over 10 different companies competeing in the market place.

Shisha are like vehicles, that never shisha drives the same. You have premium shisha to your low end shisha. A premium shisha will burn the longest, while holding it's flavor during the entire smoke. A low grade shisha, will burn fast, have little taste, and will smoke with a harsh flavor.

There is a great deal of questions on the world wide web about the dangers of smoking a hookah with shisha; therefore we decided not cover this topic.  Some have even asked are cigareetes safer than hookahs? Does the water filter of the hookah make it safer to smoke? Since Shisha does contain several of the harmuful additivies in cigareetes, does this also make it safer to smoke?

I have only one answer for all of these questions... It's still tobacco.  The Hookah Cafes Association as well as it's members realize that shisha is made with tobacco, and follows the surgeon general statement of the harmful affects that tobacco produces.
